Sharm El Sheikh for Families: A 2026 Guide

Everything a family needs to know before booking Sharm — kid-friendly resorts, calm beaches, tours, and local tips.

Sharm El Sheikh sits at the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, looking out over some of the clearest water on Earth. For families, it's one of the easiest Middle East destinations: most resorts are gated with private beaches, flights from the UK run 5–6 hours direct, and the staff at every level are used to young travellers.

When to go. November to February is the most comfortable for families — daytime highs around 22–26°C, water still swimmable. Summer (July–September) is hot (35°C+) but great for pool time. Avoid Eid weekends if you want quieter resorts.

Where to stay. For the calmest beaches, look at Nabq Bay or Sharks Bay — long shallow entries, ideal for toddlers. Naama Bay is the buzzier option but has more through-traffic. Hadaba sits on a cliff with steep-access beaches, better for older kids.

Getting around. Most families use hotel shuttles + pre-booked transfers for day trips. Don't bother with taxis from the street — fixed-price transfers (like the ones we run) are both safer and cheaper for families with kids.

Must-do tours. Glass-bottom boat trip (everyone stays dry), Ras Mohammed full-day snorkel for confident swimmers, and the Colored Canyon jeep safari for school-age kids. Skip the Mount Sinai overnight trek until kids are 12+.

Food. Family-friendly restaurants are everywhere — halal is the default in Egypt. Try Andrea's in Naama, Fares Seafood, and the Old Market for local-style food. Ice cream at Pomodoro never disappoints.

Money. Egyptian Pound (EGP). Most resorts accept USD, EUR, and GBP but you'll get better rates paying EGP. ATMs work with UK/EU cards. Tipping is expected (5–10% restaurants, small amounts for porters and housekeeping).
